Sorry posted without finishing. You may have her on this type of diet, in which case it will just be a case of taking it easy and letting her feet adjust to the different type of ground she is now working on.

Try removing all cereal from the diet and reducing the sugar content as much as possible in her diet, say bye bye to molasses if you use it. If possible move her on to poor grazing. In a few weeks you may be surprised by the difference. She may already be on this t

Laurie...I am always told not to fiddle with the feet. Don't put anything on them, pick out the stuff that gets in the frogs and use a brush to get wee stones in white line out. Their physiology should do the rest, if the get the right nutrients. I use Hilton Herbs Hoof and Health, which I think you should be able to get in the States now...its really good and only need a small amount.

My lttle mare gets foot sore every time i take her out bless her, she trys so hard and i just feel for her as this is spoiling her education! any tips to help us???

I also have an awesome standardbred & he has been barefoot for the last 4 years & he has developed the same problem in one hoof last spring & I have been trying everything to get rid of it...I trim, I file I squirt stuff in, & his hoof still cracks...however he does not appear to be lame at all on it...we have still been able to ride the trails...I was hoping it would be cleared up by this spring but it seems to be staying the same, I have been applying Fieblings hoof treatment to his feet in the hopes that I can get it to grow out! not sure it'll work but I figured it wouldn't hurt! Any other suggestions?

I have a trimmer and she's excellent-unfortunately as you've found there are bad trimmers as well as bad farriers out there.

hi could you please tell me your views on this trimming the horses feet cannot think of the correct term but you dont need to be a farrier to do this one of the liverys has this guy come in trims the feet so far back they end up foot sore

I too have had an unusual growth of buttercups...I notice the hay fields in the area are overgrown as well. I use the sting trimmer to pulverize them.

am a bit concerned about the amount of buttercups we have in our fields this year . Anyone having problems with them?

got as far as warm up yesterday to do my first Hunter Trials + Baresi was lame-soooo disappointed as was using it for a warm up for National Hunter Trials next Sunday. He's now lame on the OTHER foot, the one without the pad - so worried about him but farrier's calling tomoro morning. He was actually swaying trying to walk towards me this evening to be fed.

does anyone know what these special pads are called and what they do this pony (freckle has them as she was off work for ages they are green and have little holes in them under her shoes on her front feet

heyy well i dont know but most f our ponies and horses arnt shod but then again they dont need too be because they do anything and we work them on soft ground like a riding areaner for our ponies are used for lessons we dont hack much the other thing is that not many are trained to hack either they are retiering or to scared. (eg woddy just jumps at almost anything and ripple just rears up on stones and just keeps going as if she might fall back ways)

Is Barefoot trimming different to ordinary trimming? And do all farriers do it?

lol i dont know much about looking after hooves proply but i know it is good to clean them proply especialy when they have laminites. i dont have my own horse/ pony but often there when our farrier is there and often have to hold some of the ponies / horses why do some horses/ponies have shoes on though i know they have them on as th hack out but why do they have them on other than that

Wet ground can cause the feet to become soft and the horn of the sole to become thin. This can cause lameness. There is not much you can do to stop this other than using a hoof oil to rhelp guard against the wet and also by keeping the horse out of the mud somehow!

It has been so wet recently,and my field is mostly under water.My horses are on limited turnout at present as i am concerned about them standing in excessive wet ground and the effect this will have on their feet,frog,etc..What is a good way of keeping their feet healthy over the winter months and can standing in too much moisture damage their feet.(i am very careful to gaurd against mud fever on legs and heels)

I don't know anything about being a farrier but I found this!
