It was first broadcast in 1955-56 and starred Barry Curtis as 12-year-old Ricky North, who lived on his uncle's ranch in the American Southwest. Ricky's companions were a wild stallion, Champion, and a German Shepherd, Rebel, played by Blaze. Ricky's uncle, Sandy North, was played by Jim Bannon. In the United Kingdom, the series was re-broadcast under the title Champion the Wonder Horse.

Notes From Group Members

Uncle Sandy's piebald pony was named "Scout". (On loan from the Lone Ranger's friend Tonto? Or purely a coincidence?) Does anyone know what Ricky's grey pony was called? He/she was anonymous, compared to the famous star of the show, Champion.

Uncle Sandy's horse's name was "Thunder". (From my British friend who originally posed the question.)

Unfortunately, I was too young to remember this show. A fellow Equine Dentist of mine from Spain asked me, "What was Uncle Sandy's horse's name". He claimed that only one person was able to answer it correctly. I'll have to ask him to spill the beans and post the answer when/if I find out.

This question is actually bugging me and Google hasn't helped either! LOL

hiya!.I remember Champion the wonder horse,I used to love watching it. I can hear the theme tune...Like a streak of lightening flashing cross the sky...

It was saturday mornings that i used to watch it too.

I think that I used to watch Champion the Wonder Horse on a Saturday morning. I used to look forward to it but am not positive.

Can anybody remember what day and time Champion the wonder horse was on? I think it was Wednesday at 5pm but that is a guess
