Hey everyone, ok is it just me or is there anyone else addicted to training. I think the only horses i have ever brought that didn't need training were my riding school ponies! Ok, so who cares about the amount of work you have to put or the amount of heartache you experience along the way because at the end of it all you have made that horse what it is. You win at a competition of just do well but wow you did that. As the old saying goes what you put in you get out, defiantly true! The bonus's of training a horse. you can buy them cheaper, make a profit, but those are the superficial ones, think about the pride, the joy, the triumphs, your hard work paying off, learning new skills and ideas. amazing. At this current moment in time i have 8 horses, 4 of which i am training and 2 are being re trained for new disciplines. I do find it hard having to put so much work in, moving forward one pace then having to take serveral back but at least when i got to bed at night i know that tomorrow will bring something new. a new challenge a new learning curve. I just cant wait till the end!! come on everyone am i wrong or am i right??

compeletely addicted! i spend all my holidays at a stud (where my own horse, a 5yo stallion is based) and as we have about 12- 14 foals a year, there are always new ones that need training. our foals run with their mothers til weaning, so they're pretty much wild when they come in (always good fun!) and we have to start from scratch- grooming, tying up, leading, picking up feet! i've also broken in youngsters to ride and drive. we've probably tried every gimmicky trick in the book and come to the conclusion that good old common sense is definitely best! I also trained and broke my stallion myself which was fantastic- i love making sure that he has none of those annoying habits that other horses seem to have by training him. ironically, ever since my stallion was broken, i seem to spend the least time with him, and much more time handling youngsters! you're definitely right madforu80. this summer, i won my first ever 'first' rosette (no mean achievement in over 13 years of riding!) and it was on my stallion whom i'd trained myself. it was fantastic!
