If your horse thinks that you want him to go faster when doing leg yield at trot then you need to do some half halts so that he understands that you want him to move away from your leg side ways and not speed up, if this doesn't work then i would try it from the ground when maybe long lining if you are able to long line or know how to long line, then when he understands it on the long lines then you can try it again when riding him.

can anyone help me i want 2 teach my horse charlie leg yielding (sorry if its spelt wrong) in trot cos he can do it in walk but he just thinks i want him 2 go faster wen i try doing it in trot. so if anyone has any ideas i would love the help!! thanx!

Cazz- yes, you need to match the style of music to the horse for sure....and no Pink Panther anymore!! i spend a bit of time counting the paces rhythms ie. 26 strides in walk and canter to 30 seconds . ( They are usually similar) Then the trot- then I have a great little machine, like a Karaoke machine , that I can adjust the tempo of music I have chosen to match the timing of the horse. I love doing it- had so much fun with two buckskins in tartan and some scottish melodies a while back...looking forward to creating some more when home with my spotty boy.

if you ars looking to do dressage to music, think of your horses tempo in his gates and work from there, my id x rode brill using music by the shadows.

i'm a dressage to music wanabee, i will definately get to do some this year, anybody out there done it? what music did you have? how did you go about getting the tape made, do you need a music licence? please post any videos, love to see them.

I am probably a real wannabee in that I haven't done much dressage and what you see at the professional level is so astonishing. But what I do know is that we can all make our horses dance with us and even a few lessons can really change your relationship with your horse as a result. So come the Spring....what about it. Lets Dance!!
